Heart disease is the top leading cause of death in the United States. Because of poor lifestyle such as poor eating diet causing high blood pressure or hypertension, high blood cholesterol that can cause heart disease. Last month I have started new job at Kaiser Hospital as a patient care technician. During my orientation time I was assign at the cardiac intensive care unit. I saw a lot of patients who went for heart surgery. My first time I had ever seen critically ill patient who was in sedated condition with numerous intravenous lines, blood bypass machine, patients on mechanical ventilation in my life. I realized that how our heart is important for health, and it came across to my mind how to take care our heart.
High blood pressure is a key risk factor for heart disease. We need to maintain our blood pressure in the normal range. And also, for those who have high blood pressure need to get proper treatment rather than treating traditionally. According to kaiser Permanente research teams tested on the patient who have hypertension and high cholesterol those who had taken combination of blood pressure and cholesterol medications to see if it would prevent more heart attacks and strokes than traditional methods. In 3 years, the regimen reduced heart attack and stroke by 60%.3
Now I am going to talk about the coronary artery it is the most common form of heart disease. Coronary artery disease is caused by the buildup of fatty plaques in the walls of the arteries that supply blood to the heart. According to the source of University of Virginia Health System study shown that coronary artery disease affecting more than 20 million Americans approximately 1 in 4 deaths in the United States each year. Maintain the amount of food intake and paying attention to the variety of food we eat is another way to prevent high cholesterol which leads to coronary artery disease. In order to reduce risk of developing heart disease we need to limit fast food intake which contain high saturated fat. According to the University of Harvard school of public health study found that those who practice healthy eating patterns had a 14% to 21% lower risk of cardiovascular disease when compared to the person who had least practice. The findings also showed that these different healthy eating patterns statistically and significantly show the lower risk of both coronary heart disease and stroke.
After talking about the disease now I am going to talk about how to maintain our health to prevent heart disease. Healthy habits that keep your heart strong. At least 30 minutes of physical activity five days a week can help protect your heart health. In a paper published in The Lancet, the researchers describe how the Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiological Study (PURE) study followed nearly 131,000 people in 17 countries over 7 years. The study found that just 30 minutes of physical activity on 5 days per week could prevent 1 in 12 deaths and 1 in 20 cases of cardiovascular disease (including stroke, heart attack, and heart failure). This is the reason why we need to take care our heart to prevent heart disease.
